Old Testament Prophecy

middle-of-the-seven

The Prophecy - Daniel 9:24-27 - Daniel's 70 Weeks
Old Testament Prophecy

24) Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.

25) So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.

26) Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

27) And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.

Description Of Prophecy:

In the middle - around the half way point - of the seven year period. A measurement of time that breaks the last week or seven years of Daniel's prophecy in half.

This is also referred to as “a time, times, and half a time” (Dan. 7:25; 12:7; Rev. 12:14).(1)

Fulfillment:

Med-Messianic-SealAs the seventieth week starts, Daniel's prophetic clock begins ticking again. This part of the passage marks the time frame for what is to come next.

In its most literal interpretation the middle would be around day 1260 from the start of the seven year period. (Revelation 11:3; 12:6 ). Other interpretations may say "in the midst" instead of "in the middle."

Comments:

Judaism's sacrificial system will be re-institiuted during Daniel's last week (seven year period). Sometime during those seven years, probably around or at the middle point Israel will be forced to stop.

According to Daniel 11:45, he will then move from Europe into the land of Israel.(1)

Related Prophecy:

In The Middle Of The Seven Years:

Also in the middle (perhaps the exact middle which would be 1260 days) other things occur. And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth. (Revelation 11:3)

Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God, so that there she would be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. (Revelation 12:6)

After 42 months (42 months is shown to be 1260 days in Revelation 11:2-3). 42 months is mentioned again in Revelation 13:5 There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him. (Rev. 13:5)

The fact that this is the same as the three and one-half years, which in turn are equated with 1,260 days (Rev. 11:3; 12:6) and with 42 months (Rev. 11:2; 13:5), means that in Jewish reckoning each month has 30 days and each year 360 days. This confirms the 360-day Jewish year used in the calculations in the Calendar Comparison Chart.(1)
