Old Testament Prophecy

AUnto Us A Son Is Given

The Prophecy - A Son Is Given
Old Testament Prophecy
New Testament Fulfillment
For a child will be born to us,a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)
John 3:16 Scroll-2

Description Of Prophecy:

The child that is going to be born is actually a Son that will be GIVEN to us.

Fulfillment:

This part of the prophecy was fulfilled in full when God GAVE us His Son Jesus Christ.

There are several places in the New Testament where Jesus is given the recognition of being the "Son of God." The most well known of these is found in the Book of John.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Notice that the Son God has was GIVEN to us. The Old Testament also spoke of God having a Son.

Comments:

Lessons From The Book Of Matthew:

Matthew relates Hosea 11:1 as referring to the Messiah - the Son of God when he says ...where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son" (Matthew 2:15).

Matthew also teaches us that Satan recognized the claim of Jesus Christ to be the Son of God:

The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread" (Matthew 4:3).

Again Matthew teaches us, this time that the Demons knew that Jesus was the Son of God:

"What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" (Matthew 8:29).

Question - 1Do You know Jesus as the Son of God?

Isaiah 7:14 Connection:

Isaiah 9:6-7 is a further revelation of the Virgin Child to be born unto us found in Isaiah 7:14. There is special Hebrew grammar in Isaiah 9:6 associated with the Isaiah 7:14 passage that is found nowhere else in the Bible.

Miscellaneous:

Articles related to the Isaiah 9:6 prophecy include:

Articles related to the Messiah's birth include:

As a mighty warrior, the Messiah will accomplish the military exploits mentioned in Isaiah 9:3-5. See also Isa. 10:21; Deut. 10:17; and Neh. 9:32.

Consider Psalm 2 for another Old Testament reference point about the Son.

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. (Psalm 2:12)

The Book of Luke teaches us that when Mary (the mother of Jesus) was told about her upcoming Virgin Birth by the Angel Gabriel she was also told that He would be called "the Son of God."

The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35).

Giving Jesus the title "The Son of David" points to His Kingship.
